The State of Behavioral Healthcare in the U.S. and a Path Forward

There are 47.6 million adults in the U.S. living with a mental illness.1 Of those, just 43.3% receive the medical care they need. Compare that with the estimated 34.2 million people in the U.S. who have been diagnosed with diabetes, of which 76.2% are receive the care they need.2 The fact that other chronic conditions are being treated at nearly twice the rate as mental health is a clear indication that our approach to behavioral healthcare is broken.
